Katie Ringo returns to Scrap and Sew to teach Melt & Blend!

Good morning everybody! We have been busy busy busy, but I have a quick update for you about classes that you DO NOT want to miss!

Katie Ringo taught Melt & Blend here at the store before, and we have filled the class EVERY SINGLE TIME!! The response has been so amazing that we decided to offer the class yet again! We would love to fill it up, so if you are interested, be sure to call ahead and reserve your spot - the seats might fill quickly.

For those of you who have already taken the Melt & Blend class, do not worry! Katie will also be teaching an Advanced Melt & Blend class for everybody who enjoyed the first class and would love to experiment more with the blending technique. See below for details and the store samples for both classes.

Beginner Melt and Blend

Pull out your old box of crayons and get ready to blend them together to make dazzling appliqué pieces for your art quilts. This is a fun and easy technique to master so you can paint your fabric appliqué shapes the exact color you want. Learn how to blend colors together, layer colors to create shading, add color to traced areas and enhance your “painted” pieces with colored pencils and Pigma Pens.

Pfaff Serger Event!!!

Hello there beautiful sewers and quilters! I hope you all are well and feeling happy happy happy! 

I wanted to tell you wonderful people about our next Pfaff event here at the store - we are sponsoring and hosting a Pfaff Serger Event! 

 

 

This event is on Monday October 21st from 10am-1pm or 2pm-5pm.

Chris Dolinar is a national educator and she will be here to show you the ropes! You will get to learn how sergers work while making a project that you can take home! This event is especially for those who are looking for a great deal on a new Serger! Pfaff offers three different sergers and we WILL offer special pricing at the event!  Class fee is $10 and we will be giving event participants 10% any purchases made in the store (excluding class fees, professional services, kits and previously discounted items)  Give us a call to reserve your seat or if you have any questions - we would be happy to talk to you. Chris is only here for this one day so you do NOT want to miss the opportunity to learn from her!

 Check out these adorable Christmas napkins you can make with a Serger. Aren't they cute? These make great presents for friends and family around the holidays or just make a pair for yourself to enjoy!

Easter Seals charity and FREE quilting pattern.

Joke of the day: Where is the only place that housework comes before sewing?
THE DICTIONARY! :D haha! Ain't that the truth!

Hey there, gorgeous. Just felt like posting a little blurb about this adorable quilt pattern, designed and executed by our very own store owner, Tess! She made it from Alexander Henry's "Monkey Bizness" pirate fabric collection! Check it out (arrrgggg matey! Or ye'll walk the plank!)

Here are the requirements and instructions to create this adorable quilt. Please feel free to print out and share as you like - that's what we are all about after all:

Pirate 4 Patch Quilt

Finished Size is 43” x 53””

WOF is the Width of the fabric.

All seams are ¼”.

 Fabric

• 5/8 yard pirates on blue – Cut 10 squares 8 ½”

• 1/2 yard skulls on red – Cut 20 squares 4 ½”

• 1/2 yard skulls on black – Cut 20 squares 4 ½”

• ¼ yard grey inner border  – Cut 4 strips 1 ½”x WOF

• 1/2 yard blue for outer border  – Cut 4 strips 3 ½” x WOF

• 1 3/8 yard for backing

1. Make 4 patches with the red and black. 

2. Sew 4 patches to Pirate squares to match the picture.

3. Add inner border, then outer border. 

Hint: Sew outer border to sides first and then sew on the border top and bottom. (If you don’t, you’ll have to piece that side borders because they will be longer that the WOF)

4. Bind and quilt as desired.





Tess made this quilt special for the Easter Seals charity that we are involved in. For those of you who have never heard of it: "Easter Seals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for nearly 100 years. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation and job training for people with disabilities, Easter Seals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals."  (www.easterseals.com for more information)

We focus specifically on the disabled children in our area and we create quilts for those precious kids. And YOU can get involved too!

Join us the one night each month and make quilts for Easter Seals.  Our very own Teri Morrow has been on the board for 20 years and these quilts will go to kids in our area that are having treatments for medical problems.  Moda has donated fabric and Scrap and Sew will be offering special pricing on supplies. 
We need people to put together quilt tops (we have plenty of fabric to construct them) and we need donations of batting and funds so we can purchase more supplies. Any help is appreciated - help us to make a child's treatment and recovery comfortable with a beautiful quilt made by loving hands. Here are the dates and times for our special Easter Seals sewing nights at the store: give us a call for more information or to reserve your seat!

 

Dates: Sept. 6th, Oct 4th, Nov. 1st, and Dec. 6th

Time: 6pm-midnight (every date)
